Our pioneer program called “S for Sickle Cell” was started to improve the quality of life for people affected by sickle cell disease. “S for Sickle Cell” is a multifaceted program that consists of several initiatives aimed at providing support, raising awareness, and educating the public about sickle cell disease.

Know Your Type is Raremark Foundation’s flagship awareness and screening initiative targeting sickle cell genotypes in Uganda. By organizing free community testing camps and outreach events, the campaign empowers individuals with essential knowledge about their genetic status. Early genotype discovery guides informed decisions on health management, family planning, and prevention of Sickle Cell Disease in future generations.
Through educational workshops, one-on-one counseling, and social media storytelling, Know Your Type reduces stigma, fosters open conversations, and builds a nationwide support network for carriers and Warriors alike. To date, hundreds have been tested at hotels, schools, and market venues, and thousands more have engaged via digital channels. Know Your Type mobilizes communities, health workers, and partners to make genotype knowledge—truly—everyone’s right.
Hope For Warriors Fund is Raremark Foundation’s comprehensive support program for individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease (“Warriors”) across Uganda. The fund provides urgent medical grants for hospital bills, medications, and transfusions; assembles and distributes care packages filled with nutrition, hygiene supplies, and comfort items; and offers psycho-social support through counseling and peer networks.
By partnering with clinics, social workers, and community volunteers, the initiative identifies high-need cases and delivers timely assistance—stabilizing health, easing financial strain, and boosting emotional resilience. Since launch, the fund has supported hundreds of Warriors and their families, reducing hospital readmissions and improving quality of life. Hope For Warriors Fund transforms compassion into action, ensuring that every Warrior has access to the care and hope they deserve.
HEAL—Health Education & Aid for Life—is Raremark Foundation’s training-and-partnership program designed to strengthen the capacity of Uganda’s health workforce in managing sickle cell disease. Through a carefully developed curriculum, HEAL conducts on-site workshops for nurses, doctors, and clinical officers on SCD basics, pain management, emergency protocols, and patient education.
The program forges alliances with local clinics, mobile labs, and referral centers to extend specialist support to rural and underserved areas. Post-training mentorship and follow-up ensure that skills are retained and applied, leading to measurable improvements in patient outcomes and referral efficiency. Early pilots in Gulu and Lira have already reduced crisis admissions and shortened diagnostic timelines. HEAL builds sustainable local expertise—so no Warrior ever walks alone through their health journey.
